Durham Symphony Orchestra and KidZNotes Offer Free Concert at the Emily K Center
You’ve got new plans for April 20th. The Durham Symphony Orchestra and KidZNotes welcome the public to a free and open concert at 3pm, Saturday April 20, 2013, at the Emily K Center, 904 West Chapel Hill Street, Durham.
Side by side by professional musicians, KidZNotes students will perform an arrangement of the “Finale,” 4th movement to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, and a world-premiere, written for the Durham Symphony Orchestra and KidZNotes, by Duke University’s composer Stephen Jaffe, “Three Pieces From Still Life with Blue.” Inspired by the revolutionary El Sistema programs in Venezuela, KidZNotes believes in combating the effects of poverty and transforming the lives of underserved children through free music education. KidZNotes is delighted to collaborate with the Durham Symphony in offering KidZNotes students this enriching and invaluable performance experience.
This is the 3rd annual dual concert by KidZNotes and the Durham Symphony at the Emily K Center, a non-profit organization serving academically-focused, low-income students in out-of-school programming.
An Instrument Petting Zoo courtesy of High Strung Violins & Guitars will be available 30 minutes before the concert starts and for 30 minutes after it ends. The Instrument Petting Zoo is a great opportunity for budding musicians of all ages to learn what it feels like to play a variety of stringed instruments.
The Durham Symphony Orchestra continues its free concerts for the community through its “Pops in the Park” series – Saturday May 18, 5:00 PM Trinity Park, Durham and Sunday May 19, 3:00PM Cameron Park, Hillsborough.
