Hello everyone I am ChaKerya and I am back to tell you what has been going on at the 2014 Kidznotes summer camp in Durham. This summer the kids had a performance from North Carolina Symphony cellist, Bonnie Thron, recorded with WCPE The Classical Station, and had a performance from Brandford Marsalis. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks!
Bonnie Thron is the principal cellist in the North Carolina Symphony. While Bonnie was performing the children were very shocked at a Tibetan piece. In the music she had to hit the cello to play the piece properly, something students are always told not to do!
Students who are in the advanced Beethovens group were able to record with WCPE, a classical music station. Each student would introduce themselves, introduce a piece of music, and give a reflection of their thoughts on the piece.
The students had a performance from Bradford Marsalis along with some teachers. Mr. Marsalis is a saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. Mr. Marsalis held a master class for the Beethovens and also played alongside them. The Beethovens learned some valuable tips from Mr. Marsalis about practicing, musicianship, and improv. July 10, 2014 will be the last day for the 2014 Durham Kidznotes Summer Camp where the students will perform a concert for the community. We will not see the end of the summer camp as a goodbye but as a see you soon!
