Our Team
Leading the program will be Kathryn (Katie) Wyatt, recently selected from over 100 international candidates as one of only ten ’09-’10 Abreu Fellows. (Read more about Katie and the Abreu Fellows Program on the “Staff” page.) After completing her fellowship, Ms. Wyatt will assume the full-time post of Executive Director of KidZNotes in July 2010.
Staff instructors will be recruited from the local music community in Durham. Because of the part-time nature of the employment, we expect that advanced music students from NCCU, Duke and other local schools will be good candidates, as will local professional musicians and music educators. Apart from proficiency in music performance, criteria for employment will include experience working with young children, ideally in an instructional capacity, and enthusiasm for the goals of KidZNotes. The KidZNotes Executive Director, Katie Wyatt, will provide special training in El Sistema methodology and approach. From its inception, KidZNotes will collaborate with music educators in the Durham Public Schools for a smooth integration of objectives.
