LEGACY

Giving Kidznotes a legacy gift is your opportunity to provide the gift of music in an ongoing way.

Including Kidznotes in your long-term financial or estate plan is an important decision. It’s a decision that encompasses more than just financial goals and tax benefits. It’s about recognizing your passion for making a lasting impact on the students and families of our communities most in need. Whether you wish to endow assets to allow for future growth or help propel a particular aspect of the program, planned gifts provide meaningful support to Kidznotes while helping you achieve your own personal and financial goals.

The process for each planned gift is also as unique as the individuals who make them. For some people, the process involves your lawyer and financial adviser. Others can plan their gift with simple online forms. The Kidznotes team is happy to work closely with you to ensure the necessary details are taken care of so that your gift has exactly the impact you desire. We can act as an additional adviser, meet with your legal or financial teams, and/or provide example language to assist you during the process.

I want to name Kidznotes as a beneficiary of my:

  • You can make a powerful difference in our community's future by including Kidznotes in your estate plans. Whether creating your will for the first time or revising an existing one, including a bequest for Kidznotes is an easy and uncomplicated process. Bequests of funds may be expended for current operations or directed to establish an endowment. An endowed fund is one that cannot be exhausted and is preserved in perpetuity, supplying a constant source of financial support for the excellence that Kidznotes strives to deliver. Funds established in honor or in memory of individuals continue to echo their legacy as income is awarded to deserving recipients or applied to critical programs annually.

See the Instructions below for suggested language that may serve as a guide in establishing bequests you wish to make to Kidznotes in your will. This language is intended as a model for you to share with your legal adviser when your will or revocable trust is prepared and/or amended.

Kidznotes is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (Tax ID: 27-0446845), and your bequest may reduce (or even eliminate) the amount of estate tax your beneficiaries will owe within the guidelines of U.S. law.

Please create/revise your will to include your bequest. Sample language is provided below for reference. Language should cite Kidznotes by full legal name and location (as included in sample language below).

Please complete this simple form to notify us of your bequest so that we can provide any additional assistance.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Development Team at 919.321.4475 or development@kidznotes.org.

Additionally, seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor as needed.

Include language in your will describing your bequest. State whether your gift is a fixed sum, a specific asset (such as shares of stock), or calculated from the remainder of your estate as follows:

"I give, devise and bequeath to Kidznotes, Inc., a nonprofit corporation organized in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina, located at Durham, NC (choose from a, b, or c below)"

    a) the sum of $______________.

    b) the following described property _________.

    c) ______% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate.

Then include language that most closely matches your wishes for how your gift will be used - Unrestricted/Current Operations, Restricted, or Unrestricted Endowment - as follows:

The property comprising this gift may, for investment purposes, be merged with any of the general investment assets of Kidznotes, but the gift shall be entered in the organization's books and recorded as the _______________________________________ (ex. John Jane Doe family Endowment/Fund), and shall always be so designated. The distributions from the fund shall be used for:

    a) Unrestricted Bequest/Current Operations

"This gift is to be used for the benefit of Kidznotes to support current operations as it deems advisable with no restrictions."

    b) Restricted Bequest

"This gift is to be used by (Dept./Program)_________________________ for the following purpose:____________________________________________________."

(Note: If a contribution is to be restricted, it is recommended that the intended provision be reviewed with Kidznotes officers to be certain that your wishes may be carried out.)

    c) Unrestricted Endowment

"This gift is to be used for the benefit of Kidznotes to add to its permanent endowment. Income generated from this fund shall be expended for the benefit of Kidznotes to support scholarships and current operations as it deems advisable with no restrictions."

If you select a specific purpose for your gift, inclusion of the following sentence will ensure that the bequest remains useful through many decades:

"If at the time this devise and bequest is received by Kidznotes, or at any time thereafter, Kidznotes determines that all or part of said income of the Fund can no longer be utilized to the best advantage for the purpose designated herein, then all or any part of the annual income may be used for such other institutional purpose which, in the sole discretion of Kidznotes, shall most closely carry out my original intent."

  • You can make a powerful difference in our community's future by including Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your trust in your estate plan. Whether creating your will for the first time or revising an existing one, designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your trust in your will is an easy and uncomplicated process. Trust funds may be expended for current operations or directed to establish an endowment. An endowed fund is one that cannot be exhausted and is preserved in perpetuity, supplying a constant source of financial support for the excellence that Kidznotes strives to deliver. Funds established in honor, or in memory, of individuals continue to echo their legacy as income is awarded to deserving recipients or applied to critical programs annually.

See the Instructions below for suggested language that may serve as a guide in establishing Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your trust. This language is intended as a model for you to share with your financial or legal adviser when your will or revocable trust is prepared and/or amended.

Kidznotes is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (Tax ID: 27-0446845) and designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary may reduce (or even eliminate) the amount of estate tax your beneficiaries will owe within the guidelines of U.S. law.

Please create/revise your will to include Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your trust. A simple codicil can be prepared and attached to your will to establish Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your trust without disturbing any of your existing arrangements. A codicil is merely an addition or amendment to an existing will. Sample language is provided below for reference. Language should cite Kidznotes by full legal name and location (as included in sample language below).

Please complete this simple form below to notify us of your beneficiary designation.

Additionally, seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor as needed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Development Team at 919.321.4475 or development@kidznotes.org.

Following is an example of a codicil:

"I, JOHN DOE, hereby amend my Last Will and Testament, executed on the ____________ day of ____________________, in the year 20__. I direct that all provisions of that Will remain in effect but in addition I give, devise, and bequeath __________________________ to Kidznotes, a non-profit organization duly existing under the law of the State of North Carolina and located at Durham, NC, to be used as the organization may direct or to be used for (unrestricted or a stated purpose) the benefit of Kidznotes."

  • You can make a powerful difference in our community's future by including Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your retirement account (e.g., IRA, 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, Pension) assets as part of your estate plan. Designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your retirement account is a simple process that maximizes the impact of your gift and provides significant potential tax advantages to your estate and individual beneficiaries. You may name Kidznotes as a beneficiary for all or a portion (i.e., a specified percentage or dollar amount) of your retirement account at your discretion. Once your beneficiary designation is established, retirement account assets will pass directly to Kidznotes without requiring a probate process.

Kidznotes is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (TIN: 27-0446845). Because Kidznotes is exempt from paying income tax, designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your retirement account ensures the full amount of your retirement account designation will directly benefit Kidznotes (and avoid income tax on distributions that would otherwise be imposed on your heir beneficiaries). Additionally, your estate will receive a tax deduction for the charitable contribution, which may reduce (or even eliminate) the amount of estate tax your beneficiaries will owe within the guidelines of U.S. law.

    INSTRUCTIONS:
Obtain beneficiary designation form(s) from your employer or retirement account plan administrator. Complete the beneficiary designation form(s) noting Kidznotes as a beneficiary at your preferred share percentage. Ensure complete and accurate information is included in the beneficiary designation form(s) as follows:

    • LEGAL NAME: Kidznotes, Inc.

    • TAXPAYER ID NUMBER: 27-0446845

    • LOCATION (if applicable): Durham, North Carolina

If you are married, your retirement account plan may require your spouse to consent to naming other beneficiaries, so check with your plan administrator on spouse consent requirements. Be sure to include the applicable spouse consent/waiver form with your beneficiary designation form(s), as a lack of required spouse consent could disqualify Kidznotes as your beneficiary.

Please complete this simple form to notify us of your beneficiary designation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Development Team at 919.321.4475 or development@kidznotes.org. Additionally, seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor as needed.

  • You can make a powerful difference in our community's future by including Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Life insurance is an effective and convenient asset to give to Kidznotes that may provide potential advantages to you while living, as well as your estate and individual beneficiaries after death. There are multiple methods for making life insurance donations to Kidznotes.

Naming Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy is a simple process that provides Kidznotes with a lump sum payment of death benefit proceeds from your policy. You continue paying premiums and maintain ownership of the policy, giving you access to any cash value accumulation while you live. You may name Kidznotes as the beneficiary for all or a portion (i.e., a specified percentage or dollar amount) of your life insurance policy account at your discretion. Once your beneficiary designation is established, death benefit proceeds will pass directly to Kidznotes without requiring a probate process. Naming a charity as a life insurance beneficiary is not disclosed in estate settlement proceedings, so designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary ensures that your gifting intentions remain private and separate from the rest of your estate.

Other potential methods for making life insurance donations relate to transferring ownership of the policy itself, including a charitable giving rider to an existing policy and policy donation and gifting dividends. These strategies are a bit more complex but may have additional tax advantages depending on your specific circumstances. We suggest discussing these types of life insurance donations with your financial and/or legal advisor to ensure you choose the best donation strategy for your situation. Additionally, given the transfer of control and responsibility for premium payments to Kidznotes, acceptance of each donation of life insurance policy value/ownership is subject to specific review and approval by Kidznotes staff.

Kidznotes is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (TIN: 27-0446845). Because Kidznotes is exempt from paying income tax, designating Kidznotes as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy account ensures that the full amount of your designation will directly benefit Kidznotes. Depending on the type of life insurance donation, your estate may receive a tax deduction for the charitable contribution, which may reduce (or even eliminate) the amount of estate tax your beneficiaries will owe within the guidelines of U.S. law.

    INSTRUCTIONS:
Obtain beneficiary designation form(s) from your life insurance policy provider.
